Timber Harvesting magazine Associate Editor Jay Donnell travels to London, Kentucky to visit Randy Maggard Logging. When Randy Maggard started his journey into the world of logging he had no idea where his path might lead him. As a teenager, Maggard grew up working in different sawmills in the London, Ky. area for many years and wondered if there was more out there for him. In 1990, he and his brother-in-law bought a John Deere 440C cable skidder, as well as a chainsaw, and began contract logging around London. Unfortunately, Maggard’s brother-in-law was killed in a car wreck just two months after the two men began working together. This was obviously a tough time for Randy and his family, but he knew he had to persevere and keep pushing forward so he and his father-in-law, Don Arthur, bought a John Deere 350C track loader.
